Officer of the Deck on a Destroyer during a hurricane facing 90 foot waves with necessity to keep the ship from going sideways into a trough. I was terrified, but somehow shut the fear off and when I got out of the hurricane, I relaxed. 2. A similar situation when I was Officer of the Deck on a Destroyer Escort during a gale. In both situations I was in my early 20s. 3. I was caregiver for my wife as her health was declining in a CCRC. I was 79 going on 80. I was completely focused on caring for her and my feelings were shut off, which became clear 7 months after she passed away and I began to feel again.
